X-rays are invisible and they can pass through most objects, including the
human body. When they interact with an imaging device, an image is
created. Dense tissues, such as bones, absorb X-rays and appear white on
the X-ray. Less dense tissues, such as muscles and organs, absorb fewer
of the X-rays and so they appear gray. Some X-rays are not absorbed and
these areas in the image appear black.
