    It helps your doctor decide whether you need treatment for irregular heartbeats.

How do I prepare for this test?

    No special preparation is required for this procedure.

How long will it take to complete the test?

    The procedure lasts about 15 minutes.

What can I expect during the test?

  • You will need to loosen your clothing from your upper body.
  • Small, sticky pads, or electrodes, will be placed on your chest.
  • A cable connects each pad to the EKG machine.
  • The EKG machine records your heartbeats on paper.
  • You must relax and be still for this test.
  • The procedure is painless.
