1. Cornary artery disease - is a narrowing of the coronary arteries that brings oxygen
and blood to the heart. Less blood and oxygen to the heart can result in damamge.
2. Heart attack - causes the heart muscle to scar. Scar tissue does not work like
normal tissue and weakens the heart’s ability to pump.
3. High blood pressure (hypertension) - causes the heart to work harder to pump blood
against the high pressures in the body. Over time, this extra work can lead to heart failure.
4. Enlarged, weakened heart muscle - another name for this is cardiomyopathy. This can be
caused by heart attacks, high blood pressure, a virus, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, chemotherapy,
specific diseases, or for reasons unknown.
