Rehabilitative Services

Custer Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Services provides comprehensive, hands-on, personalized care. Our team of professionals have expertise in providing treatment in the following areas:

Physical Therapy

The goal of Physical Therapy can help patients of all ages return to the most active lifestyle possible. Physical Therapy help patients decrease pain, increase mobility, improve strength and balance, and prevent future injury. A variety of conditions can be treated with Physical Therapy including stroke, joint replacements, fractures, head, back and neck problems. A quicker recovery is just one of the benefits of Physical Therapy for sports injuries as well as those sustained at work.

Physical Therapy

Specialized areas of physical therapy services include: vestibular rehabilitation for dizziness and balance disorders, lymphedema which is chronic swelling of the extremities, and a bladder continence program.

Physical Therapy is available to both inpatients and outpatients.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

The goal of Occupational Therapy is to increase independence in Activities of Daily Living including: dressing, bathing, personal cares, eating and homemaking. Our therapists provide specialized assistance in learning or re-learning skills, stress management, and treatment for hand/wrist injuries. They provide adaptive equipment, fabricate custom splints, evaluate for specialized seating needs, and provide home environment assessments prior to discharge.

Speech-Language Therapy

One goal of the Speech-Language Therapy is to help patients achieve maximum communication skills. This is achieved by increasing a patient's understanding of verbal and written language; increasing the expression of thought, both verbally and in writing; increasing cognitive reorganization for memory and problem solving; and adjusting to hearing loss. Another goal of Speech-Language Pathology is to enhance swallowing ability with practice in compensatory strategies and nutritional management for adequate oral intake.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The goal of Cardiac Rehabilitation is to help patients recuperating from heart disease return to the most active, productive lifestyle possible. Registered Nurses and technicians trained in coronary care and rehabilitation work closely with each patient to design an individualized program of education. The program closely monitors patients to build strength and endurance in a controlled setting. Regular reports are provided to the patient's physician. Typically, sessions take place three times a week, offering one hour of education and exercise.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Phase one and two sessions are held at Custer Regional Hospital. Phase three sessions are held at the YMCA.
