The Regional Rehabilitation Institute was recently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its Adults, Children and Adolescent Inpatient Rehabilitation -
Hospital programs. Regional Rehabilitation Institute received a three-year accreditation, which
represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization.
The latest accreditation is the seventh consecutive three-year accreditation outcome the Regional
Rehabilitation Institute has received from the international accrediting commission, and demonstrates
the Institute's conformance to the standards established by CARF. Accreditation by CARF is voluntary
and fosters the growth and development of best practices in the rehabilitation field. The Regional
Rehabilitation Institute is the only accredited rehabilitation facility in western South Dakota.
The Regional Rehabilitation Institute is a 51-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility and outpatient
rehabilitative clinic, and is located at Rapid City Regional Hospital. It has been providing comprehensive
inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to people of all ages who are recovering from an illness,
injury or life-long health condition in Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills area since 1969.
“We are very proud of our CARF accreditation, particularly because it is a voluntary process,” said Mike Latour,
Director of the Regional Rehabilitation Institute. “We choose to be surveyed by an external organization in order
to validate that we are exceeding national benchmarks of quality care, provide quality rehabilitation services to
our customers, and to push ourselves to improve our services.”
CARF is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal
outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons
served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF, the
accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of
their programs and services.
