Supportive Care Services

We have a full time Registered Nurse Case Manager to provide individual assistance for insurance related questions and to assist with the pre-authorization requirements of Medicaid, TriCare, VA (Veteran's Administration), Indian Health Services and other managed care health plans.

A master's prepared Social Worker is also available to provide counseling to patients and their families and to assist patients needing psychosocial or financial services.

Many cancer patients experience a change in their nutritional status during the course of their disease or as a side effect of treatment. Nutritional counseling is available for to assist individuals overcome any nutritional difficulties. Education and guidance is available on specialized diets, nutritional supplements, diet guidelines to reduce side effects, and identification of foods that are more tolerable.

 

Financial Assistance

Patients who need financial assistance to pay for their medications can receive help through our Medication Access Program. Our specially trained technicians link patients to special programs that are provided by most drug companies.

South Dakota women have help to cover the cost of breast and cervical cancer screening through the South Dakota Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program's All Women Count!. Mammograms, Pap smears and related exams are available at no cost to eligible women at many doctors' offices, mammography units, family planning and other health clinics. The All Women Count! Program serves women 40-64 years of age for Pap smears, 50-64 for mammograms, without insurance to pay for screening exams, and who have insurance but cannot pay the deductible or co-payment. The program pays providers directly. For more information call 1-800-738-2301.

Rapid City Regional Hospital assists women who do not meet age guidelines for participation in the All Women Count! Program. Project Safetynet serves uninsured and underinsured women who meet household income guidelines and fall below the age of 40 for cervical cancer detection services and below the age of 50 for breast cancer detection services. New cases of breast and cervical cancers affect over 100 area women every year. For more information, call (605) 719-2525.

Our Hand in Healing Fund provides transportation, food and lodging assistance for those patients who qualify.
