They are part of the dedicated team that selects, prepares, and
monitors each patient's unique chemotherapy treatment. Our
technicians are nationally certified in hospital pharmacy, with
extensive training in preparing IV and chemotherapy medications.
Oncology pharmacists are also available in the Rapid City Regional Hospital pharmacy
weekends and evenings to provide continuous care to our hospitalized patients.
For patients being treated with chemotherapy, our pharmacists perform a complete review
of patient history, lab values, current disease, and treatment regimen along with a dosage
check of each medication. The pharmacist assists the physician in selecting the best
anti-emetic treatment to prevent and treat chemotherapy-induced nausea.
The Cancer Care Institute's pharmacy has state-of-the-art equipment for preparing
intravenous medications. Every chemotherapy dose is carefully prepared by a technician and
checked by a pharmacist.
Financial help is available for patients unable to pay for their medications through our
Medication Access Program. Our technicians can also inform you about special programs
provided by many drug companies.
