Treatment for cancer depends on several factors including the type of cancer; the
size, location, and stage of the disease; and a person's general health. Treatment
plans are developed to fit each person's unique situation. Primary methods used
to treat cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, brachytherapy
and biotherapy.
A critical component of Rapid City Regional Hospital's comprehensive cancer
program is the Cancer Care Institute. The Cancer Care Institute houses radiation
oncology and medical oncology services, supportive laboratory and imaging
services and clinical trial research offices. The Cancer Care Institute's close
proximity to Rapid City Regional Hospital also allows us to perform special
procedures such as intraoperative radiation therapy, permanent prostate seed
implants, and centralized chemotherapy preparation.
