John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute Rapid City, S.D.
At the John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute, we believe that a
person diagnosed with cancer shouldnt have to travel to Colorado
or Minnesota to receive state-of-the-art care. Since opening its
doors in 1993, the Cancer Care Institute at Rapid City Regional
Hospital has provided care for more than 10,000 patients fighting
cancer. Conveniently located adjacent to the main Hospital, the
Cancer Care Institute provides both inpatient and outpatient medical
and radiation oncology services, supportive laboratory and imaging
services, and related clinical trial research services.
Regional Hospitals cancer program has received continuous, full
approval as a comprehensive community hospital cancer program from
the American College of Surgeon's (ACoS) since 1981. ACoS approval is
widely recognized by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare
Organizations and other entities, including the American Cancer
Society and the Association of Community Cancer Centers, as a
"Gold Standard" for cancer programming.
Our vision for providing everyone in our region with the highest
quality, progressive quality treatment has been recognized
nationally. In 2002,the Cancer Care Institute was awarded a $5.4
million grant from the National Cancer Institute to investigate
health disparities and improve cancer treatment for American Indians
and was selected as one of only nine institutions nationwide to
receive tomotherapy, a revolutionary new radiation delivery system
to treat cancer patients.
